P.P.O.W. Gallery, NY, represents work for one-year trail period.

Solo exhibition at Gallery A, Chicago, IL

Invited to artist residence program from August to December in Cite Des Arts, Paris, FRANCE. Explores ideas about French color and collage. Buys a daily pastry for subject of realist watercolor, but arranges upon a colored-paper background as a synthetic cubist collage to find a way to find a new relevance for realist painting beyond the experiential truth of cubism and the colorful formalism of Matisse. Meets Adam Gopnik.

1997

Returns from January to March in Cite Des Arts, Paris, FRANCE.

Visiting Artist at Alfred University, Corning NY

Installs "LOOK UP!" in 78 places throughout the AMTRAK platforms in New York City - Penn Station.

1998

Installs "APPLE GATE" in central terminal delivery ramp of LaGuardia Airport, NY.

Visiting Artist at Washington University, St. Louis, MO.

Visiting Artist at Yale School of Art, Norfolk Summer program, CT

Visits Japan to research, design and propose 25-part sculpture, "SONGBIRDS" in Sumida Triphony Hall, Shinju-ku, Tokyo JAPAN.

 

1999

Installs "SONGBIRDS" in Sumida Triphony Hall, Shinju-ku, Tokyo JAPAN. Fifteen ceramic floor tiles and ten independent polished bronze sculptures, mounted on granite columns in entry plaza of symphony hall.

Films missing continuity scenes, creates sound track and edits "FAIR FILM" with Red Grooms. (animated 16mm color 30 minutes) A centennial commemoration of the wondrous 1899 Paris World's Fair. A Ruckus Construction Company Project that began in 1975. It was initially edited in 1976 and again in 1979, when the project was put on hold until additional continuity scenes could to be created.

2000

Exhibits "PARIS COLLAGE" series at Fischbach Gallery, NY. 

Visits five artist studios in the Great North West with wife and two children. Portland and Tillamook, OR. Seattle, Tacoma, Puget Sound and Conway, WA. Writes catalog essay on painter, Michael Clough.

Permanently installs "CONDUCTOR'S WATCH & KEY CHAIN" for the NYC MTA Arts For Transit program, in Great Neck LIRR train station.

 

2001

Commissioned to design, favricate and install "SANCTUARY" at Lew friedman Gardens, Syosset, NY. Eleven independent bronze sculptures of playful wild birds.

Chosen as a finalist to design "REED FENCE" for Newark International Airport, NJ. Works for three months to assemble presentation packet. Deadline for delivery of project proposal materials to the offices of The Port Authority of NY & NJ on 73rd floor of One World Trade Center, is Monday, September 10th, one day before the infamous attack.

Volunteers as a welder for rescue work at World Trade Center disaster site. Receives rescue training and equipment at Javits Center and boards bus for transfer to "ground zero." Enforcers from the Steel Workers Union stop bus and physically eject all volunteers without paid-up union cards.

Publishes biographical essay on father, Norman Saunders, in Illustration Magazine, issue #2.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2002

Paints portrait for the family of deceased fireman, Mike Weinberg, NYC Fire Dept. Squad #1. Painting is lent for nationwide travelling show called the "Faces of Courage."

Publishes biographical essay on pulp artist, Ernest Chiriacka, in Illustration Magazine, issue #6.

Hires actresses to pose in character as dejected lovers for a new series of paintings called "Broken Branches" Ghostly figures in landscapes around the artist's studio in Westhampton Beach, NY

Exhibits "BROKEN BRANCHES" series at Fischbach Gallery, NY.

 

2003

Moderates panel discussion and lectures at PULP ART exhibition at The Brooklyn Museum of Art.

Publishes biographical essay on pulp artist, Rafael DeSoto, in Illustration Magazine, issue #8.

Contributes essay on Norman Saunders illustrations for the men's adventure magazines to "It's a Man's World" published by Feral House. Essay is praised by The Los Angeles Times Book Review.

Visits Venice, ITALY for two weeks with family.

2004

Exhibits "PAPER DOLL" series at Fischbach Gallery, NY.

Installs "TEENAGERS GOOFING AROUND WITH ELECTRONIC ITEMS" for Radio Shack Executive Office Complex, Fort Worth, TX

Publishes biographical essay on pulp artist Allen Anderson, in Illustration Magazine, issue #10.

Edits photo credits for "Men's Adventure Magazines", the collection of Rich Oberg published by Taschen books.

 

2005

Publishes biographical essay on pulp artist J. W. Scott in Illustration Magazine, issue #14.

Publishes essay on Norman Saunders in issue #10 of TEASE Magazine.
